Beast in the Forest – 12 Days of Sketchoween 2023

This year Drentsoft Games ran and took part in 12 Days of Sketchoween. This jam was a little earlier in the year than previous Sketchoweens and ran for a whole month instead of the usual 12-15 days of a normal Sketch jam.

This year’s entry was a collaboration with Styxcolor, who did an excellent job providing the modelling and texturing and Drentsoft Games who did the design, sound design and programming.

The game sees the player take on the role of Virginia who is searching for her mum after a horrendous car crash but sinister things are afoot.

I really like what we were able to achieve with this game. Not having to worry so much about the visuals really freed me up to experiment with the gameplay, level and sound design and while it’s not perfect, it does feel like a step up from a lot of our previous game jam games.
