The All-Seeing Orb
The All-Seeing Orb was my entry to Godot Wild Jam 46. The theme was Orb and the wildcards were:
- I Feel Small – Make enemies much larger than the player
- Fear of the Dark – Make someone (or something) follow the player
- Non-Euclidean – Have a map that is impossible in the real world
I decided to make a game about an eldritch horror in the form of a giant eyeball that controls the children of its particular neighbourhood while the adults sleep endlessly. Sarah, the protagonist, is just the right age to neither be controlled nor fall under the sleeping spell. She must investigate and save the neighbourhood and perhaps the world from being enslaved by the evil eye.
I attempted to use all the wildcards for this jam. I made the eye huge, about 50 metres across, dwarfing the house from which it emanates. I also created an enemy that ceaselessly chases the player once the eye detects them, this is a giant shadow form of the player.
The final wildcard came in the form of the end game level, the player must navigate many endless corridors and impossible house layouts to finally find the source of the curse and complete the ritual to destroy it.
I have continued to work on the game post-jam, adding an introductory level and some small improvements to the existing levels and enemy AIs. I think it will likely be one of my main streaming games for development on Twitch going forward.
You can try the game for yourself on itch.io. Give it a go and see if you think it should be turned into a full game!
